Released in 2004, The Passion of the Christ still remains the top-grossing film with an R-rating. Stay tuned for the testimony of Jim Caviezel, the actor who took on the role of Jesus Christ.
Directed by Mel Gibson, The Passion gives a realistic portrayal of the trials and tribulations of Jesus Christ during his final twelve hours. The film begins with the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, then insomnia and grievance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and then the savage scourge and crucifixion of Christ. The movie then concludes with a brief portrayal of his resurrection.
Casting the role of Jesus Christ was no small feat, but Gibson found great success in actor Jim Caviezel.
The Testimony of Jim Caviezel
Caviezel would soon find out that playing the iconic role of Jesus would be no walk in the park, either. During casting, Gibson even reportedly forewarned Caviezel that playing the role of Jesus Christ would inevitably hurt his acting career.
But Caviezel took a chance and accepted the role of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Read more below of his experience during and after filming The Passion of the Christ.
During filming, Caviezel’s portrayal of Jesus came with unexpected injuries. He was struck by lightning, accidentally scourged during the whipping scene, had his shoulder dislocated, and suffered from pneumonia and hypothermia throughout.
Since 2011, Caviezel admits that good acting roles have been hard to come by since The Passion, but states he still has no regrets about playing the role of Jesus.
To hear it straight from his mouth, watch the amazing testimony of Jim Caviezel shown above.
God’s Love Will Never Run Out on You
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
No Expiration Date
Life is fleeting. And most everything else along with it.
Food from the supermarket is stamped with a date and “Best If Used By” label on every perishable. Gadgets like our smartphones, televisions, and computers wear with age and become obsolete with progressive updates. Fashion trends come and go, repeating in endless cycles.
There is one permanence in life you can count on, though. The sacrifice depicted in Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ and discussed in the testimony of Jim Caviezel.
The sacrifice of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His sacrifice on the cross will forever be our salvation. The foundational love of God’s grace is an eternal and timeless fixture in our lives that we can all rely upon. It has no expiration date!
Rest assured, God’s love is the basis of our faith, the bedrock that will not change. Trends come and go like fleeting waves. But as society’s taste in products, pop culture, and performers shift and change, Jesus still remains.
His love is here for you today, yesterday, and tomorrow. Always.
Pray: “Lord, I’m so thankful for the unchangeable, unalterable foundation for my faith in Christ. I praise you for your permanence and I am grateful for your grace.”
