Unfortunately, death is a part of life. It can impact people even harder if it happens unexpectedly. Loss often comes with a significant amount of grief, and it can be difficult to overcome it on your own.

But, having a strong faith in God can help you through even the most troubling times. There are plenty of Bible verses about death that can help you cope, and it’s important to know a few of them during your time of need.

Read on to learn the verses you should keep in mind and close to your heart to prepare you for these trying moments.

1.) Romans 14:8

“If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.”

The Lord vowed many times to keep us safe and deliver us from evil. But, he may not always do it in the way that we think.

The ultimate goal for God is to have all of His children reach Heaven, which they can do by trusting in him and accepting Christ. All of those who live for the Lord will continue to belong to the Lord after death and be granted eternity with Him.

Therefore, death is nothing to be afraid of, and you should remember that your loved ones are in a better place.

2.) John 11:25-26

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?
Jesus makes everything so abundantly clear. There is only one way to Heaven and that is through God’s son, Jesus the Christ. If your loved one has believed in Hi and you see a true transformation in their life that they have surrendered to Jesus, then take hope because they are in Heaven with their savior!

3.) 2 Timothy 2:11

“Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with Him, we will also live with Him.”

While there are plenty of Bible verses about death, 2 Timothy 2:11 is one of the most comforting. It reminds us that Christ offers his children the opportunity to defeat death and live on with him.

The loss of a loved one who was a follower of Christ is not a loss at all, for you will see them again in the future.

4.) Matthew 16:25

“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”

It’s no secret that dealing with the death of a loved one can be one of the most difficult experiences you ever face. Out of these five verses, Matthew 16:25 is one of the most important to remember.

It’s impossible to avoid death. It’s going to happen all of us sooner or later. But, death doesn’t have the be the end of our story.

Through God, death is simply the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another.

5.) Philippians 1:21

“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

When you lose a loved one, it’s important to remember that they are with Christ. The Bible frequently describes Heaven as a paradise for all those who trust in the Lord, and the world we live in now is most definitely not a paradise.

Thus, those who accept Christ as their Redeemer will find everlasting happiness in Him. If you’re feeling particularly down, turning to humor will help brighten your mood, as well.

6.) Song of Songs 8:6

“Place me like a seal over your heart, like a seal on your arm; for love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grave. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.”

This verse declares that God’s love is so powerful that it can save us even after our life comes to an end. If you’ve recently lost a loved one, you can take comfort in the fact that it was God who was calling them home.

7.) 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

Our momentary troubles won’t last long — we’re only here for a short time so we need to fix our eyes on Jesus — they author and finisher of our faith!
